The Eagle Owl in the Medes Islands: A Symbol of Mediterranean Biodiversity and Medaqua's Commitment
A symbol of ecosystem health and a reflection of the commitment to protecting the natural heritage of the Medes Islands.
The Medes Islands, located off the coast of L’Estartit (Costa Brava), are one of the most important marine reserves in the western Mediterranean. Their crystal-clear waters, Posidonia seagrass meadows, and great diversity of marine life make them an ideal place for snorkelling and diving.
Recently, a surprising discovery has been confirmed: the nesting of the eagle owl (Bubo bubo), the largest owl in Europe, on these small islands.
This finding is particularly important because eagle owls usually live in inland rocky areas or large forested zones. Their presence in the Medes Islands confirms the good conservation status of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park.
